Artist: Kasse Maddy Diabate
The Griots of Malian culture use stories, song and poetry to orally transmit their society's history to future generations. A tradition that has been practiced for thousands of years, the role of Griot is one that's inherited from one's ancestors, and is limited to a select few families. One such lineage is prestigious Diabete family, of which Malian musical treasure Kasse Mady Diabete has descended. KASSI KASSE features the rich, passionate vocals of Diabate against instruments common to the Griot tradition like the n'goni (an African lute), kora (harp-like instrument) and balophone (sounds similar to a marimba). The album offers a great mix of ancient and contemporary styles and is a great sampling of Malian history.
