During the 90's, the continent of Africa was and continues to be crushed by the AIDS epidemic (70% of adults and 80% of children with the disease are from this part of the world). Yet, in the face of such unbeatable odds, the spirit of Africa shines brightly. These are people determined not to let this problem get them down - and they're proving it with their upbeat, life-affirming music. This album is a collaboration between Real World and the "Mercury Phoenix Trust," an organization created by the surviving members of the group Queento fight the spread of AIDS. Artists featured on the album include: Papa Wemba, Youssou N'Dour, Remmy Ongala and T.A.S.O. Choir.
