Artist: Hukwe Zawose and Michael Brook
The voice of Tanzania, legendary singer Dr. Hukwe Zawose is a cultural treasure. His voice, which can at times be high-pitched with an intense emotional sting and at other times deep and guttural, is an instrument in itself; a gift of great self-expression. Teaming up with producer/guitarist Michael Brook (known for his productions with Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and Brian Eno), the two create a fruitful collaboration of bluesy African traditional songs enhanced by Brook's technical wizardry. The music is sung in both Zawose's native Kigogo and Swahili and features special guests Marie Daulne (of Zap Mama) on vocals and Lee Thornberg on Latin brass.
