Hailing from the West African country of Guinea, Yacouba "Bruno" Camara was brought up in a highly religious family that believed being a musician was not an adequate profession. As a result, he decided to leave his hometown and travel to Paris, where he gained notoriety as a percussionist; soon after, Fatala was born. Heavy on percussion, including congas, balafon, djembe and the titular gongoma, this ensemble is in tune with the pulse of jazz, the grittiness of blues and the ceremonial sounds of West Africa.
